Miniature and Stationery
Collecting items is one hobby that for some people can be both amusing and relaxing. It can be a short-lived event but for people who get hooked, it can be a life-long passion. Items collected can be as normal as stamps or as bizarre as dead nails. Most people however, choose objects that can have ornamental effect to their homes such as miniatures. Miniatures, sometimes called figurines are small replicas of life-size objects. Miniatures can range from copies of real-life people, trees, cars, houses, buildings, famous landmarks among others. Miniatures often reflect the owner’s personality. Some serious collectors of miniatures often collect only one kind of item and often fill their homes with them. Famous miniature collections also end up in museums around the world. We may find these people quirky but collecting miniatures for them becomes sort of anxiety and stress relief. Collecting is not only restricted to miniatures. Some people also collect stationery. Often, only little girls get into this habit, they exchange stationery pieces with their friends. Some people may find it strange that it is only in rare occasion that these stationeries are used for writing purposes. Most people argued that collecting stationery is not mainly for the practical purpose of using them as writing implements but for the sheer beauty of the pieces. Sharon Anderson, an avid stationery collector, says that she started stationery collecting as a child. She still keeps her treasured pieces even if they are already yellowed with age. She states that is not the stationery themselves but the memory they evoke. She still remembers the person who she exchanged a certain stationery sheet with. It serves as a trip down memory lane when she inspects each of the sheets in her collection. Other people who have gone into collecting miniatures and stationery seriously look for distinct features in each of them. Miniatures should be in a perfectly preserved state although some people love little cracks and imperfections because it provides a conversation piece for the item. Color and attention to the detail is also an important aspect for some. Porcelain and ceramic miniatures are the more popular collectible miniatures but there are others who also collect plastic miniatures. Stationery items on the other hand does not only comprise of collectible sheets but also extend to envelopes, bookmarks, stickers and cards. Some people love to gather scented paper while others look at the printed figures or the paper quality. Antique stationery is highly valuable but stationery designed by contemporary artists can also be priceless. GP
